I recently went out and grabbed a list of new and “hot” music to satisfy my fix for the month. Below is a review of these for all to enjoy or comment on.

Alesana-The Emptiness This is one of the heavier releases I picked up. While the formulas used are tried and true, I found this band to have some redeeming qualities. This band stricks a chord somewhere between Sum -41 and Killswitch Engage. Not for the mild of heart but another great Emo rock band to emerge on the scene and look forward to hearing thier styles mature.

Cage the Elephant – Self Titled This is a band to watch. Their style resembles a blend of southern indie rock with the punk styles of The White Stripes. The breakthrough hit on this disk is “Ain’t no Rest for the Wicked”, a catchy sing along tune. The rest of the disk has some other highlights as well my fav being “Tiny Robots.”

Patty Griffith – Downtown Church This was a gamble but had heard some nice things to say on it so decided to try it out. I was not disappointed in my choice. This CD is a good adult alternative pick. A raspy but delightful soul and blues vocal style mixed with some wonderfully written songs. This disk is great to just have in a collection for those rainy days and quiet times.

Colbie Caillat – Breakthrough Just when we had had enough pretty, young, country crossover singers (in my opinion), another one emerges. This gal has managed to do something not many achieve though as a debut artist, score 2 releases in the top 20 Billboard Charts at same time. Her sweet voice and catchy tunes are a great combination. I found it hard to not catch myself humming along. If nothing else buy this CD for your girlfriend or daughter.
